Privacy & Data
Student Opportunities NYC is an independent directory for students. This page explains the website features that use or store information.
Saved programs and notes
Without an account, your favorites and application notes are saved in your own browser and can disappear if its data is cleared. With sign-in, they are stored using Supabase so you can access them on another device. Your notes are not listed publicly; do not enter passwords, student IDs, medical details, or other sensitive information.
Accounts and student suggestions
Sign-in is provided through Supabase and supported email or Google authentication. When you suggest a program, the organizer name, program name, website, optional notes, and your account identifier are saved for administrator review and spam prevention. Suggestions are not public by default. Only an administrator can approve them and create a public listing.
Anonymous website statistics
The site counts page loads by day and page category (homepage, program pages, or student dashboard) without storing a visitor's name, account ID, IP address, full page URL, or a tracking cookie in the site's statistics table. Counts are approximate and include repeat visits. Hosting and authentication providers may process technical logs according to their own policies.
Borough filtering
Visitors may filter the individually reviewed program directory by the program's known NYC borough. The selected borough is saved only in this browser so the filter can be restored on later visits. The website does not request your device's precise location or contact the NYC Open Data program-site service for this feature. Programs without a confirmed borough remain visible when all boroughs are selected.
Saved-program comparison and suggestions
Comparing opportunities uses the programs already saved to your account or browser. Similar-program suggestions are based only on the subjects of your saved programs; they do not infer your age, school, grade, or eligibility. Comparison selections last only while that dashboard page is open. The optional deadline calendar download is generated inside your browser. You can also choose an individual program’s Google Calendar link, which opens a Google Calendar draft containing that program’s title, listed deadline, and public organizer details; Google receives those details only when you choose the link. You review and save the event in Google Calendar yourself. The site does not send deadline reminder emails or notifications; your calendar provider handles any reminders according to its own settings.
External websites and program information
Official program links lead to independent organizations with their own privacy terms. A program being listed does not mean that applications are currently open. Dates, eligibility, and status should always be confirmed directly with the organizer.
Review and corrections
Students can use the site's Report an Issue option while signed in to report mistakes. Administrators can review, update, or remove listings and inappropriate suggestions. Please ask a trusted adult for assistance if you have concerns about signing up for third-party programs or sharing personal data.
